Foreign Minister Affirms the Need to Continue French Support for Iraq within the Framework of Global Coalition to Prevent the Resurgence of Terrorist Groups
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with his French counterpart, Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian and discussed developments in the political and security situation in Iraq, and the importance of continuing coordination, whether in the bilateral framework or within the Global Coalition to fight Da’esh terrorist organization.
The Ministers also discussed economic projects that could be invested in Iraq, as well as completing preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit to Paris next month.
Minister Fuad Hussein praised the effective French role in fighting Da’esh terrorist organization within the Global Coalition, stressing the importance of continuing this cooperation to prevent the return of terrorist groups’ activity.
This visit comes within the European tour that Minister Fuad Hussein is conducting at the head of a high-level delegation to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, and finding mechanisms to achieve more cooperation and coordination in various fields to achieve common interests.
The Ministers also discussed mechanisms for bilateral cooperation on the political, security, economic, and cultural levels, as well as the entry of French companies to contribute to the reconstruction.
Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his appreciation for the visit of the French President to Baghdad, stressing that it gave an important impetus to advance the development of bilateral relations, which The Minister renewed the call to the French side to continue effective French security and military cooperation within the framework of the international coalition to fight the terrorist organization ISIS and help rehabilitate the security services, in addition to security and intelligence cooperation between the two sides.
For his part, Le Drian affirmed his country’s full readiness to support Iraq and strengthen its position in the international and regional community, explaining that France will employ its international role to support Iraqi sovereignty through diplomatic activities that fall within this framework. will be followed by other visits, the most important of which is the visit of Prime Minister Mr. Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in the coming weeks to achieve partnership in various fields.
