Foreign Minister Calls on Germany to Continue Support for Iraq by Providing Intelligence and Technical Support and Training of Iraqi Security Forces

Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein received Mr. Norbert Röttgen, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the German Parliament (Bundestag).

The two sides discussed security and political developments in the region, praising the points of convergence and cooperation between Iraq and Germany, especially in confronting the remnants of Da’esh terrorist organization.

Minister Fuad Hussein explained the importance of the German role in this regard, calling on Germany to continue its support for Iraq by providing intelligence and technical support and training to Iraqi security forces in its various formations.

The two sides also discussed ways and efforts to confront the Coronavirus pandemic, and the possibility of benefiting from the German experience in this field.

The Minister reviewed the Iraqi government’s preparations to organize elections in accordance with standards and conditions that restore the Iraqi people’s confidence in political participation, calling for the German side to have a consular representation in Basra Governorate due to its economic and commercial importance, the German side expressed its support and the German Parliament was determined to support the efforts of its government in this regard.

Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his thanks to the German side and the Global coalition to fight Da’esh terrorist organization for their positions in support of Iraq in the field of achieving security and stability.
