Mr. Obaid explained that the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones supports and contributes to achieving a world free of nuclear weapons, but this does not mean that they constitute a substitute for achieving the goals of the NPT and reaching a world free from nuclear weapons that have been concluded for fifty years without achieving its goals, adding that the nature of the interests of the superpowers contributes to facilitating or placing obstacles that prevent the establishment of empty areas. Noting that each region has its own nature, conditions, relationships and exceptional condition; It may sometimes be inappropriate to apply these experiences in the Middle East.

The Chargé d’affaires called for the necessity of affirming the IAEA’s professional role, and not politicizing it in ensuring the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes as stipulated in Article 4 of the NPT, which is an inalienable right.
In the context of the Free Economic Zones, the Chargé d’affaires affirmed that the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones contributed to the establishment of free economic zones in the world.
