The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Cairo and Permanent Representative to League of Arab States Meets with Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Nayef Al-Dulaimi met with the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Khaled Abdul-Ghaffar, via video conference and discussed ways of enhancing scientific cooperation between Iraq and Egypt in light of the preparation and close coordination for holding the meetings of the Iraqi-Egyptian joint high committee to be held in Baghdad.

Ambassador Al-Dulaimi praised the strength of historical relations between Iraq and Egypt, and the importance of a strategy of scientific cooperation between the two brotherly countries, explaining that coordination is underway with Baghdad to study the draft agreements and memorandum of understanding proposed by the Egyptian side, to determine the final date for the joint high committee to convene, expressing desire to expand the prospects of cooperation between the two countries to include twinning between Iraqi and Egyptian universities, and to conclude more exchange agreements between faculty members and researchers, expand participation in scientific conferences between the two countries, exchange scientific publications, as well as raise the concerns of Iraqi students studying in Egypt, including granting residencies, entry passes for study purposes , lowering the fees collected by universities and colleges.

On his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul Ghaffar promised to overcome all the difficulties faced by Iraqi students in Egypt, and find appropriate solutions to them.

And stressed the importance of activating more aspects of cooperation between the two countries as they represent a strategic and scientific dimension, calling for the consolidation of the partnership in the educational, cultural, scientific and research fields, indicating Egypt’s keenness to provide all means of support to Iraqis, especially in the fields of higher education, training, and scholarships, stressing the need for cooperation between Egyptian and Iraqi universities through exchange visits between professors from both countries, student exchange, cooperation in educational and scientific programs and research of mutual interest, in addition to organizing joint scientific conferences that serve development plans and their priorities in the two countries, including social and human sciences.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of increasing the number of scholarships granted to Iraqi students to study in Egyptian universities at the level of graduate studies.
Ambassador Al-Dulaimi invited the Minister Dr. Abdul Ghaffar to visit Iraq within the framework of activating the scientific and cultural cooperation relations between Baghdad and Cairo.
