Iraq Participates in Public Debate on Human Rights Situation in Palestine

Dr. Abbas Kadhim Obaid, the Chargé d’affaires and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva, participated in the general discussion of the seventh item of the agenda of the 43rd session of the Human Rights Council on “The situation of human rights in Palestine and the occupied Arab territories”.

Mr. Obaid gave Iraq’s speech in which he stressed the importance of keeping the seventh item and its decisions in the discussions of the agenda of the Human Rights Council, expressing his welcome to the High Commission for issuing the database with the names of companies operating in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Mr. Obaid expressed Iraq’s condemnation of the violations and the ongoing escalation by the occupying power against Palestinian civilians, the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, the demolishing of agricultural lands and homes, the displacement of its residents, and the ongoing attacks in Jerusalem, indicating that the occupying force is neglecting humanitarian and international human rights law, and also reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast position to achieve peace and security by ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands and all the occupied Arab territories, and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with its capital as Al-Quds Al-Sharif.
