Iraq Supports Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) Regarding Iranian Nuclear Agreement (JCPOA)

Permanent Representative of Iraq to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) , Ambassador Bakr Fattah Hussain, affirmed that Iraq supports the continuation of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015), which includes verification and monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the peaceful use of atomic energy (JCPOA) during the meetings of the agency’s Board of Governors for its June round.
Ambassador Bakr Fattah stressed that Iraq supports to the return of negotiations on the basis of equitable negotiations for all parties that guarantee security and peace in the Middle East, and reduce the tension caused by the US withdrawal from the agreement,expressing the support of Iraq to the efforts of the countries that participated in the negotiations that led to a satisfactory agreement for all parties in the year 2015, and continuing to work to return all parties to the negotiating table; as Iraq believes that negotiations are the sole and best solution, and that worsening the situation and heightening tension does not serve countries of the region.
Iraq calls on the countries concerned to make every effort to maintain the viability of this agreement for its importance and positive role in promoting regional peace and security, and it contribution to achieving stability in the Middle East region in particular.
