The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, Mr. Mohammad Bahr Al-Ulum gave Iraq’s speech on behalf of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi at the Security Council meeting report to the Secretary-General, and listened to a briefing by the head of (UNAMI) Ms. Jeanine Plasschaert.

In the Prime Minister’s speech, the Permanent Representative stressed the importance of safeguarding sovereignty of the state and strengthening the rule of law and reclaiming the state’s control over arms and preventing foreign powers from transferring their conflict and rivalries and using Iraq as a base to attack other countries.

The Permanent Representative stressed that the government’s priorities are to intensify efforts to counter the Coronavirus pandemic, and to draft an exceptional budget that strengthens the ability to respond to financial and economic crises.

The Permanent Representative revealed the government’s eagerness to release salaries without delay, compensate the martyrs and wounded demonstrators, and form a committee of experts to support the High Electoral Commission in its efforts to organize early elections, and the formation of a special committee to prepare for strategic negotiations with the United States of America.

The Permanent Representative expressed Iraq’s desire to renew the mandate of the UNAMI mission for one year.
