Press Statement

Iraq received today medical materials and equipment sent by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to counter the Coronavirus (COVID-19) along with a specialized medical team to train in the prevention of this virus, and methods of dealing with those infected with it.

It is a step that we view as clear practical evidence that reveals the level of cooperation between Baghdad and Beijing, and the strength of the strategic ties that bind the two friendly countries.

This comes within the efforts of the Foreign Ministry to activate the relations and a reflection of its political and diplomatic influence with the countries of the world, and the advanced levels of cooperation between Baghdad and China, as the Foreign Ministry Senior Undersecretary of Political Affairs and Bilateral Relations, Mr. Abdul Karim Hashem Mustafa met with Mr. Zhang Tao, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Iraq accompanied by a diplomatic and technical delegation on 3/2/2020, and expressed the allocation of the government of his country of laboratory examination requirements for Coronavirus by providing (50,000) medical examination kit for this virus (RT-PCR), protective suits, masks and supplies that weigh up to 6 tons.

The Iraqi government and people express their thanks and appreciation to the Chinese government, and convey the most sincere feelings of sympathy and wishes to the Chinese people to overcome the crisis of this virus and its repercussions on their country.
