The Ambassador of Republic of Iraq to Lisbon Meets Chairman of Chairman of Portuguese Parliamentary Committee for External Relations

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Lisbon, Mr. Siwan Saber Al- Barzani met with the Chairman of the Portuguese Parliamentary Committee for External Relations, Mr. Sergio Sousa Pinto, at the headquarters of the Portuguese Parliament in Lisbon.

During the meeting, a number of issues of common concern were discussed, stating the importance of Iraq in relation to the region and the world, because of its political, economic and religious role and  calling for the reopening of the Portuguese embassy in Baghdad since it is an important step to facilitate economic and commercial cooperation as well as facilitating the granting of entry visa to both countries, The Ambassador also touched on the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, and called for conducting exchange visits between the two countries to benefit from experiences in various fields related to the parliamentary work.

On his part Mr. Pinto stressed that the reopening of the Portuguese embassy in Baghdad, which was closed in 2007 due to the security conditions at the time, and economic and financial problems experienced by Portugal Mr. Pinto welcomed the exchange of visits with members of the Iraqi parliament to learn about the Portuguese parliamentary experience.
