The Representative of Republic of Iraq in Geneva Participates in Briefing to Member States on Humanitarian Situation in Iraq
Ambassador Dr. Hussein Al-Khatib, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva presented a brief explanation of national programs in dealing with the file of the displaced, partnerships with United Nations agencies and specialized international organizations that aim to provide humanitarian assistance and basic services, and to ensure the voluntary and safe return of the displaced to their areas.
Ambassador Dr. Hussein Al-Khatib stressed that the international community should provide more support to the Iraqis because they fought and sacrificed their lives in defense of Iraq and the world in the face of terrorism, calling for the continued support of the international community for the displaced, praising the efforts of the Joint Committee on the Displaced, and its attempt to return to the environment.
This came in a briefing organized by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid in Geneva (OCHA) in cooperation with the representative of the Republic of Iraq in Geneva, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the coordinator for humanitarian affairs in Iraq, Ms. Marta Ruedas on the humanitarian situation in Iraq.
At the conclusion of the briefing by the Permanent Representative, on behalf of the Government of Iraq, he thanked the United Nations, the specialized humanitarian agencies, international organizations, NGOs, and donors for their continued support of Iraq and its people, focusing on Iraq’s need to lift the momentum of international training programs for Iraqi staff, and to benefit from international expertise in this field.
