Press Statement
The Foreign Ministry summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baghdad. The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Abdul Karim Hashim informed the Iranian Ambassador of the absolute rejection of latter’s earlier statement on the targeting of international coalition forces operating in Iraq, which are working upon the request of the Iraqi government, and in coordination with it, and which is training and consulting Iraqi forces. The Undersecretary also stressed that Baghdad will not be an arena for international conflicts, or to be a corridor for any attack that harms neighboring countries or friends of Iraq from the countries of the region and the world.
The Foreign Ministry rejects the attack on the two diplomats who were on an official mission at the Iraqi Consulate General in the holy city of Mashhad, and called on the Iranian security authorities to investigate the circumstances of the incident and take the necessary measures to reduce attacks on Iraqi citizens in the Islamic Republic. Iran has distinguished fraternal, historical relations and is keen to maintain balanced and stable relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
