The Iraqi-Finnish Joint Committee Holds its 13th Meeting in Helsinki
The Joint Iraqi-Finnish Committee was held in Helsinki on 3-4/9/2019; the meeting was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Distribution Mr. Nafie Abdel-Sada and the Finnish side by the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Economic Affairs Ms. Nina Vaskunahlti.
The Iraqi Ambassador in Helsinki, who thanked the Finnish side for hosting this meeting, explained that this meeting comes in conjunction with the reopening of the Finnish Embassy in Baghdad,and the start of sending staff to the embassy in addition to the designation of the Finnish Ambassador to Baghdad. The meeting discussed ways of cooperation between Baghdad and Helsinki in various fields, including: energy, trade, industry, financial sector, transport, communications, reconstruction, housing, water resources, planning, education, education, health and agriculture, as well as Finland’s support for Iraq in the field of counter-terrorism, the reconstruction of liberated areas, the signing of a memorandum of understanding for political consultations, and the exemption of visa holders of diplomatic and service holders from Finland.
On his part, the Finnish side considered this meeting an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, the readiness of the Helsinki government to provide various types of support to Iraq, especially in the field of reconstruction, and commitment to participate in military operations in the fight against terrorism within the Global coalition, and contribute to development projects, and building capacity in different fields
