Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Mr. Moayad Saleh Meets with Chairman of Committee on International Affairs in the Russian State Duma Mr. Leonid Slutskiy

The Foreign Ministry Undersecretary, Mr. Moyed Saleh, met with Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs in the State Duma, Mr. Leonid Slutskiy in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Russia to discuss bilateral relations and ways of activating the parliamentary work through the committees of friendship and foreign relations between the Iraqi and Russian parliament’s. Mr. Moayad stated that Iraq today has an advanced democratic experience, and the Iraqi Council of Representatives  succeeded in forming a government that seeks to represent the Iraqi people in a cross-sectarian way, adding that Iraq is moving at a good pace towards laying the foundation for democracy to build a new Iraq.  On the bilateral relations between Iraq and Russia, Mr. Moayad Saleh stressed Iraq’s keenness on maintaining the strong relations with Russia, based on the old and long history between the two countries, adding that the Iraqi Parliamentary Friendship Committee will strive to hold meetings with the Russian side in the near future.

On his part, Mr. Mr. Leonid Slutskiy stated that the Russian State Duma looks forward to increasing parliamentary cooperation with its Iraqi counterpart, and the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma calls for the need to hold regular meetings with the Iraqi parliamentary relations committee to exchange views and coordinate joint work between the two countries, adding  that a high-level Iraqi delegation to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries reflects the keenness of Iraq to develop bilateral relations.
