Foreign Minister Summons Chargé d’affaires of United States Embassy to Baghdad
Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim summoned the Charge d’affaires at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Mr. Brian McFeeters in the absence of the US Ambassador in Iraq. During the meeting they reviewed the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington, and ways to strengthen them to serve the interests of the two countries, in addition to issues related to intelligence and military cooperation and the fight against terrorism according to the priorities of Iraq and the vision of the Commander in Chief of the Iraqi armed forces. Minister Alhakim stressed that Iraq is committed to the principle of establishing good neighbourliness relations with neighbouring countries to preserve the security of Iraq and the region, and that Iraq is not an arena for conflict and difference, but for construction and development. In this context, Minister Alhakim urged the US side to abide by the implementation of the terms of the strategic partnership agreement with Iraq in the security and economic aspects and to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in various sectors.
In conclusion, Minister Alhakim made clear that Iraq and its government place all diplomatic and legal options at the forefront of its priorities to prevent any external interference in its internal affairs and to safeguard the security and sovereignty of Iraq and its people.
