Iraq’s Ambassador to New Delhi Meets with Secretary General of Asian-African Organization for Rural Development (AARDO)
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to India Dr. Falah Abdul Hassan Al-Saadi met in the embassy building with Mr. Wasfi Hassan Al Serihin , Secretary – General of the Asian – African Organization, the meeting was based on the ministry’s directives to move on the institutions concerned in the field of water management and conservation of wetlands to increase the marshes in southern Iraq.
After the exchange of thanks and welcome, the Ambassador talked about the importance of the Marshlands to the World Heritage, which is a diverse and rare environment as it represents a great historical and cultural value, and despite the decision of UNESCO, which included the Marshes in the list of World Heritage the area has not received international attention reflecting its cultural and promising tourist value
On his part, the Secretary General of AARDO expressed his readiness to send a survey team of experts to the Marshlands in coordination with specialized bodies such as the Korean Rural Development Authority and the International Irrigation Commission and also confirmed that the AARDO organisation has (45) memorandum of understanding with many specialized organizations in this field. The Secretary-General also noted the need for the Ministry concerned with Marshes in Iraq to send detailed proposals on the projects that can be implemented in the marshes to the Organization of (AARDO) as well as target groups of projects so that the organization can send them to Committee of Experts.
