The Permanent Representative of Iraq in Geneva Meets with High Commissioner for Human Rights
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to Geneva Mr. Hussain Al-Khateeb met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, at her office in Geneva.
The High Commissioner expressed her support for Iraq in light of the challenges it faced as a result of its fighting terrorist gangs and the readiness of the office in coordination with the United Nations Assistance Office for Iraq (UNAMI) to provide technical assistance and capacity-building to Iraq.
On his part, the Permanent Representative praised the cooperation between the Permanent Representation and the High Commissioner in Geneva and reviewed the most important laws and modern legislation adopted by Iraq aimed at strengthening efforts to protect human rights, especially the presence of Iraq as a member of the Human Rights Council. The two sides also discussed a number of issues, including the recent briefing of the High Commissioner to the Human Rights Council, issues of the implementation of the death penalty and the women and children of families of Da’esh terrorists.
