Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Moscow Meets with Envoy of Russian President to Middle East and North Africa Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov
Ambassador of Iraq in Moscow Mr. Haidar Mansour Hadi Al-Athari met at the Russian Foreign Ministry with the Russian President’s envoy to the Middle East and North Africa and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov to discuss bilateral relations and latest political developments on the regional and international arena.
During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of the exchange of official visits between Iraqi and Russian officials, including the visit of the President, Dr. Barham Salih, the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Mohamed Halabousi to Russia, and the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergey Lavrov to Iraq in the near future. Ambassador Al-Athari stated that these visits reflect the desire of both countries to develop bilateral relations between the two countries.
On his part Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov, stressed the continued support of the Russian government for Iraq and the willingness of Russian companies to contribute to the reconstruction of cities destroyed by terrorist acts.
As for Iraq’s participation in the Astana conference as an observer, Mr. Bogdanov explained that Iraqi participation will play a major role in supporting efforts to bring peace to Syria, indicating that Russia is keen for Iraq to have an effective role to bring the points of view together between the participating parties in the conference.
At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador briefed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister on the Embassy’s preparations for the 75th anniversary of the Iraqi-Russian relations, noting that this long history of cooperation reflects the strength of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
