Iraq Chairs Emergency Meeting of League of Arab States Council to Discuss Measures on Brazil’s Opening of Commercial Office in Jerusalem
Iraq chaired the emergency meeting of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the measures that Arab countries could take regarding Brazil’s opening of a commercial office in Jerusalem.
Iraq was represented by Dr. Ahmad Nayef Al-Dulaimi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Cairo and its permanent representative to the League of Arab States, as he delivered a speech in which he emphasized that the successive developments in the Palestinian issue necessitated a swift and resolute confrontation and called for preventing the recurrence of such actions by issuing measures for serving the aspirations of our brothers in Palestine, and the aspirations of our peoples and countries.
Ambassador Al-Dulaimi reiterated Iraq’s position on the struggle of the Palestinian people and its legitimate rights as Iraq has always expressed its firm and principled stance towards the Palestinian issue, and will remain among its defenders by all legitimate means.
Ambassador Al-Dulaimi stated that the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Mohamad A. Alhakim sent a message to Mr. Ernesto Araujo, Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Brazil, expressing Iraq’s stance in rejecting the statement made by the Brazilian government on 10th of November to open a commercial office in Jerusalem.
Adding that this (decision) was contrary to Brazil’s steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian issue, and contrary to UN Security Council Resolution 478 of 1980.
The meeting was held upon the request of the State of Palestine to urge the Brazilian government to withdraw from these policies that harm the interests of the Brazilian people, and prevent the achieving a just peace in the Middle East.
