Acting Head of International Organizations and Conferences Department Meets Ambassador of Kingdom of Sweden to Baghdad

The acting head of the International Organizations and Conferences Department Mr. Ali Hilal met with the Swedish ambassador to Baghdad Mr. Lars Ronnås and discussed the pivotal role of Sweden in providing support to the efforts of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq to remove mines left by Da’esh terrorist gangs.

The two sides touched on coordinating mutual support between them to obtain membership in international organizations, and evaluating mechanisms for implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in light of Iraq’s recent submission of its voluntary national report.

Mr. Ali Hilal praised Sweden’s voluntary contributions to the displaced in Iraq through the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in cooperation with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The Swedish ambassador praised the efforts of the federal government and local governments in accelerating the process of clearing the areas planted with mines and restoring basic services to them, which reflected positively in the return of hundreds of thousands of displaced people to their cities.
