Meeting of Iraq Permanent Representative in Geneva with Secretary-General of UNCTAD

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Hussein Mahmoud Al-Khatib met with Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, in his office at the Palais des Nations on 29/8/2019 . The two sides touched on the relations between Iraq and UNCTAD, especially the participation of Iraq in the preparation of the next UNCTAD conference, which will be held in Barbados in October 2020. The Permanent Representative appreciated the efforts of the UNCTAD secretariat in supporting the development issues and interests of developing countries, and the technical assistance provided to Iraq, including the preparation of the study of the needs of Iraq in the field of electronic commerce (e-Trade Readiness) expected to be issued at the end of this year..

    The Permanent Representative stressed the need to strengthen the support provided by UNCTAD to Iraq and to intensify technical assistance programs, both quantitatively and quantitatively especially in investment and reconstruction after Iraq’s war on Da’esh criminal gangs on behalf of the world, and to overcome the consequences of wars and economic blockade on the Iraqi economy.
