Statement of Foreign Ministry on Visit of Security Council Members to Iraq

The Iraqi capital Baghdad will host the UN Security Council visit for one day upon the invitation of the government, a historic visit that coincides with Iraq’s move to strengthen its international start off and effectiveness and its growing diplomatic activity in its openness to the world, guided by the basic principles of the Charter of the United Nations which it is one of its founders.
The implications of this visit are indicative of success in the efforts to restore security, stability and reconstruction, as well as to assert the sovereignty, unity and integrity of Iraq.

Iraq expresses the importance of this visit an important organ of the United Nations because of its pivotal role in the maintenance of peace, security and the resolution of international issues through political means, and believes that its role must be strengthened and its functions effectively supported especially in solving the problems and the crises that the region suffer from.

The visit includes meetings with the President of the Republic Dr. Barham Saleh, Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mr. Mohamed Al-Halboussi and Prime Minister Dr. Adel Abdul Mahdi, and representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.
