Foreign Minister Meets with British Counterpart

Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim met with British Foreign Secretary Mr. Jeremy Hunt
Minister Alhakim discussed with his British counterpart during his visit to the United Kingdom, which was directly assigned to him by Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
Minister Alhakim stressed that Iraq today is a meeting point for all, and should be distant from any conflicts that can hinder, or delay the process of development and construction in the country. Noting that the Iraqi government’s view is that: Cooperation between the partners will continue, and efforts should be made to avoid escalation and tensions in the region, and to avoid any positions or moves that could impede the region which is witnessing an escalation between neighbouring Iran and the United States. The exchange of views with the United Kingdom as one of the signatories to the nuclear agreement with Iran could play a role in easing tension . Stressing the necessity of consolidating stability and providing the necessary climate for achieving security and development and protecting the interests of Iraq, the Gulf states and the region.
