The Representation of the Republic of Iraq in Geneva participated in the annual meeting of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in its 69th Session held in Geneva, where the delegation of Iraq issued a statement noting the success achieved by Iraq in managing the crisis of the displaced during and after the war on Daesh terrorist gangs which was considered one of the largest crisis of displaced people in the world.
The delegation expressed in its speech the gratitude for the support provided by friendly countries in helping Iraq, explaining the national measures taken by the Iraqi government to confront displacement and asylum and the care given to vulnerable groups including children, women and the elderly, in addition to managing the file of displaced persons and providing the necessary solutions that encourage the displaced to return to their original homes and work to remove the causes of displacement.
On his part, Mr. Filippo Grandi the United Nations High Commissioner, praised the efforts of the Iraqi government in the face of the crisis of displacement, noting that Iraq is one of the few nations that succeeded in managing the crisis, noting that cooperation will continue effectively between UNHCR and Iraq, and thanked the Iraqi community for hosting asylum seekers from neighboring countries.
